Can you introduce yourself?
My name is Karim Khodier. I live and work in the Graz area, Austria, and I am the founder and operator of Zentrum Feuerwurzel – Ort zum Sein.
Zentrum Feuerwurzel is a non-physical center for psychological health and mindfulness. We use EventKoi to manage our talks, workshops, and retreats.
What event plugins did you try before you chose EventKoi? And why did you choose it over those other plugins?
I tried setting up The Events Calendar (TEC) and considered Modern Events Calendar (MEC).
With TEC I had a hard time setting up my first event and making it look good. First, I encountered issues with the classic editor. I then tried the block editor, but was unable to create a design I was satisfied with.
As a tech-loving, non-developer who doesn’t like feeling restricted, I chose EventKoi because it was super easy to get to that first good-looking event, and I found the UI very intuitive. I also liked the approach of a lightweight, no-fuss modern plugin.
I also chose it because I wanted a simple and commission-free ticketing option. This was important to me because events are a side-business within my side-business, so I need to keep costs low.
I plan on using EventKoi for my second website on psychosocial coaching and counselling in the future.
What have you built with EventKoi? What requirements did you have?
I’ve built two events so far, one without registration and one with Stripe ticketing.
My must-haves were:
- Simple, good-looking event sites for registration-free events
- A list of upcoming events for my homepage
- German translation, including emails
My should-haves were:
- Stripe ticketing without additional commission besides Stripe
- Recurring events
How was your experience setting up and using EventKoi?
Installation, the learning curve, setting up events, and connecting to Stripe were all super easy.
However, I also encountered some issues, like translation not working for some buttons and modals, and some modals not displaying correctly on mobile.
Thankfully, support is great, and all the issues I reported were resolved quickly, and my events were able to go live.
Now that everything is set up and your events are live, what do you enjoy about using EventKoi?
What I absolutely love:
- Ease of use
- Events look great
- The support. Not only quick answers, but the issues were resolved and pushed live in less than a week. And many feature requests were absolutely welcomed, and I’m looking forward to using these.
