How to add event dates to Rank Math and Yoast SEO titles

Requirements: Yoast SEO or Rank Math. This feature is available in EventKoi Lite and EventKoi Pro.

This article is for site owners who use Rank Math or Yoast SEO and want search results to show when and where an event happens. EventKoi adds variables for an event’s date, time, location, timezone and recurrence, and you paste them into your SEO title and meta description templates.

EventKoi variables

Rank Math wraps variables in single percent signs, for example %eventkoi_date%. Yoast SEO uses double percent signs, for example %%eventkoi_date%%. The names are the same in both plugins.

  • eventkoi_datetime (Event date and time) shows the event’s date and time. An event with several dates lists them all, separated by commas. If the date is marked as to be confirmed, it shows your note.
  • eventkoi_date (Event date) shows the date without the time.
  • eventkoi_time (Event time) shows the start time, or the start and end time when the event starts and ends on the same day.
  • eventkoi_datetime_with_summary (Event date and time with summary) shows the date and time followed by a summary of how often the event repeats.
  • eventkoi_recurrence (Event recurrence) shows a summary of how the event repeats.
  • eventkoi_location (Event location) shows the name and address of each location, or the name and link of an online location.
  • eventkoi_timezone (Event timezone) shows the event’s timezone, such as Europe/London, when Display timezone in event page is on for the event, or when Timezone display in EventKoi settings shows visitors their local time.

Dates and times use the formats from Settings > Default settings > Dates & times in EventKoi, or your WordPress date and time formats if you haven’t set any there.

For a recurring event, the main event page shows the first occurrence. Each occurrence’s own page shows that occurrence’s date and time.

The variables work on event pages only.

Add the variables to your SEO plugin

Paste the variables into the title and meta description template fields your SEO plugin has for events (the Events post type), using your plugin’s percent signs. For example, type %eventkoi_date% in Rank Math or %%eventkoi_date%% in Yoast SEO where you want the date to appear.

To set a title or description for one event, go to Events and open the event. If your SEO plugin adds its fields to events, they appear under Fields from other plugins, and you can paste the variables there. If you see “Save this event as draft to display metaboxes from other plugins.”, save the event as a draft first.

For recurring events in general, see Create Recurring Events with EventKoi: Step-by-Step Guide.
