The team was amazing in January. We did sooo much and I’ve becoming the marketing bottleneck!

Check out our changelog for a full list of updates.

Custom fields

Custom fields are finally here! The world of events is wide and varied:

  • A conference might want a custom field for conference room numbers and names.
  • A community centre might want custom fields for dietary restrictions.
  • A school might want a custom field for age groups.
  • A concert venue might want a custom field that links out to the artist’s own site.

While you can add this information into the event description, there are 2 main reasons why custom fields might work better for you:

  1. You want certain information displayed differently: Each custom field has its own metakey and shortcode. This means that you can make that information stand out, placed anywhere in the event template or formatted in a different way than the rest of the event description.
  2. You want to pick from existing options: You can create a dropdown or radio of existing options so that users filling out the event are limited to what they can select from. This ensures repeatability and continuity across all events. For example, you don’t want some people using “WordPress” while others using “WordPress”.

Here’s a look at what creating a custom field looks like in EventKoi:

Bricks integration

We’re also 80% complete with our Bricks integration and are looking for users to test it and tell us what specific additional features they’d like from us.

When it comes to page builder integrations, the sky is the limit. We could spend 6 months building the most complete Bricks integration anyone has ever seen. But if 90% of those features are not used, that’s wasted effort and a lot of maintenance overhead.

So instead, we decided to build the basics, and let you tell us what else you want.

One big feature we’d like to build is the ability to do custom queries in the Query Loop element. This will allow you to query things like “event start time” so that you can list events that start at a certain time. But this has proven tricky to do, so please tell us if you want this!

So far we’ve built the following:

Sneak preview: RSVP

We also squeezed in a big new RSVP feature. It’s live in the plugin, but I haven’t had a chance to write the docs on it yet. Try it out and let me know what you think!

Here are the features for RSVP:

  1. Enable it by creating a new event.
  2. It should show up in the Default template using the shortcode: eventkoi_rsvp.
  3. RSVP frontend: Attendees can RSVP for events with their email address and they will receive an email confirmation.
  4. Emails for RSVP confirmation: Access in Settings > Emails (this is our first attempt at email templates! I’m excited for this!)
  5. At the event, attendees can check in using a QR code (sent to their email). Admin users just need to login to the WP admin on their phone, then scan the QR code to automatically check attendees in.

This is a huge new feature, so I’m super excited to share it with you. More on this soon!

Page builder integrations: Beaver Builder and Divi

We’re still adding page builder integrations. We know that lots of people use page builders to build their sites, so ensuring you can create event templates on your page builder is a priority for us.

Tickets!!

This is a must-have feature. This is a huge features that will take time to build, so it’s unlikely going to be ready by next month, but I will keep you updated on our progress.
